Twitter is a great way to help you promote the profession and should be considered one of many “tools” you employ to raise public awareness.

While Twitter can be overwhelming at first, you don’t have to jump in with both feet to get involved. Simply sign up and start “following” other users.

If you’re not sure what to do, check out the ASLA National Twitter Feed @landarchitects. You can also see what other chapters are up to with ASLA’s Twitter Chapter List.

As with any other form of communication, use common sense. Don’t tweet anything you wouldn’t want your mother to see.

I’ve gone tweeting for you! Follow me @Mike_Cowden for all those hot landscape architecture PR tidbits.  San Diego, St. Louis, FL, Texas, West Virginia, NYC and Oregon seem to tweet fairly often.  Do you tweet? Would you tweet?

The best part about twitter: you don’t need to tweet to get something out of it.  Just follow people and let them do the work.  And no, that does not mean you should start walking behind your friends.

I must admit that if you’re not careful you can end up reading what your neighbor had for breakfast but if you’re selective about who you follow then you just might find yourself the latest media expert.  Like the New York Times?  They tweet their most interesting stories.  Is there some film maker that gets you into the movie plex?  Follow ‘em and you’ll know their next movie before they do!

Admit it – you want to know what I had for breakfast.  I guess you’ll just have to go to twitter.com and sign up.
